The manner in which the Germans are carrying out the lesson they're claiming to have learned from the Holocaust – that Israel must be defended, and that any Palestinian existence that endangers the Israeli status quo, not just terror, but all forms of resistance or mere criticism, by now even lament, constitutes antisemitism – is the same manner in which they carried out the Holocaust itself: joylessly, relentlessly, with strict adherence to principle, great attention to detail and absolute disregard for any kind of common sense or dignity. Germans have no memory of the Holocaust, and German Anti-Antisemitism takes place in that void: pure consequence without a cause, pure politics without political purpose, pure hatred and envy of the Other in whom they recognize themselves as Antisemites.
